Wayne was born to Walter and Dorothy Hamann on June 18, 1946 in Medford. He graduated from Medford High School. He then married Shirley Peche on Nov. 5, 1966. He enlisted in the Army National Guard in 1967.
Wayne worked as a carpenter, raised mink and worked at Fur Foods in Medford until he decided to start his own game farm known as Wild Kingdom. He then started his lifelong career of Hamann Logging and Trucking for 56 years, working seven plus days a week.
His other passion in life was raising deer, which turned into a deer farm known as Majestic Whitetails for 35 plus years. In those years, he also started the
1946-2023
hunting preserve known as Balsam Hollow Ranch.
He knew how to run multiple machines, but his favorite was his bulldozer. He was always smiling when he was digging up Shirley’s lawn. He was involved in many logging organizations and because of that, he was recognized and awarded for his accomplishments in the logging industry in Wisconsin and Michigan, which included Outstanding Logger and harvest and delivery of the Wisconsin Capital Holiday Tree.
He loved spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed fishing in the Gulf of Mexico with his son, grandson, and friends from Mississippi. Also, he enjoyed hunting out west and in Canada. And we can’t forget his love for his dog, Ponsee.
Anyone that knew Wayne knew he was as stubborn as they come but he loved with all of his heart. He will be deeply missed by all his family and friends.
Wayne is survived by his wife, Shirley Hamann; son, Dwayne (Sheila) Hamann of Medford; grandson, McKay Hamann of Eau Claire; and brother, Donald (Sheila) Hamann of Tucson, Ariz. Wayne is further survived by other family and friends.
Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Paul W. and Dale W. Hamann; sister, Diane Rudi; and sister-in-law Christine Hamann.
