Charles Marquardt
Charles B. Marquardt, 95, formerly of Loyal, passed away on July 2, 2021, at his home on Guam. Born in 1925 in Athens, to Benjamin and Agnes (Hall) Marquardt, Charles grew up and attended school in Loyal. Upon graduation, he joined the Army. Four years later, he left the Army to enlist in the newly formed U.S. Air Force.
For 30 years, he enjoyed life as a flight engineer having been to nearly every country in the world. After retiring from the Air Force, he began work at Dole Pineapple, in Hawaii. Ten years later he would again retire and move to Guam where after 40 years of marriage, he lost his beloved wife, Ameria. After Charles remarried, he once again found himself alone when his wife, Lily, passed away. Charles continued to get together with friends and pursue his interests in all things aviation, country music, swimming in the ocean, beer and teaching himself to play the harmonica.
He is survived by his beloved brother, Patrick (Muriel) Marquardt of Pine River; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, as well as his great-great nieces and nephews. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Agnes; his brother, Edward; and his three sisters, Ruth De Simons, Caroline Colt and Elaine Kemp.
