Marianne Thorson

Marianne Thorson, age 85, of Abbotsford, passed away on Monday, Dec. 5, 2022, at the Colonial Center in Colby.

A graveside service at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery will be held at a later date. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.

Marianne was born on March 3, 1937, the daughter of Walter and Laura (Bielfeld) Koptizke in Milwaukee. She graduated from St. Mary’s Academy in Milwaukee. Marianne was united in marriage to Carl Thorson in September of 1955. They later divorced.

Marianne worked as a cook for a few restaurants in the area, including Abby Cafe, Medo’s and Mr. B’s Truck Stop. She was a long-time member of First United Church of Christ in Colby and liked to collect angels and dolls.

Marianne is survived by two children: Jeffery (Theresa) Thorson of Curtiss and Laurie Fox of Abbotsford; six grandchildren: Natalie, Josh, Matthew, Deanna, Steven and Michael; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children: Joseph in 2011 and Corrine in 2012; three sisters, Betty Joyce, Karen Feine and Joan Brennan; a son-in-law, Harry Fox, and her special friend, Lanny Voss.
