Joann Strey

Joann C. Strey, 89, Franklin, passed away at Meadowmere Oak Creek in Oak Creek, on Saturday, Oct. 29, 2022. A graveside service will be held at noon on Saturday, Nov. 5, at Windfall Cemetery in Granton, with Rev. Daniel Zimmerman officiating.

Joann Caroline Fricke was born on Nov. 5, 1932, in Loyal, the daughter of George O. and Phyllis (nee Kruger) Fricke. She was raised on the family farm and received her education in Loyal. Joann was united in marriage to Robert J. Strey on Feb. 18, 1950, at Zion Lutheran Church in Granton. They rented a farm for a couple years before moving to Milwaukee where she worked in the cafeteria at Hamilton High School, at The Fiesta, a car hop in Milwaukee, and finally for GM Delco Electronics until her retirement. During retirement, they enjoyed traveling and camping in their motorhome. She had many interests, but especially enjoyed water skiing, camping, snowmobiling, and going on motorcycle rides with her husband.

Joann will be missed by her son: Lynn (Gail Szalay) Strey of Greenfield; one granddaughter: Jennifer (Jason) Schubert of Oak Creek; two great-grandchildren: Alyssa and Hunter Schubert; one sister: Mary Jean (Gordon) Goehring of Bend, Ore.; one step-sister: Donna Pollack of Menomonee Falls; one step-brother: Robert (LeeAnn) Gotter of McAllen, Texas; and nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert, on Oct. 19, 2022; one sister: Jeannine P. Young; her step-mother: Elsie A. Gotter-Fricke; one step-sister: Darlene Kasper; and one step-brother: Elmer Gotter.
