Elmer Charles Gotter was born on May 11, 1931 in Granton, the son of Elmer and Elsie A. (nee Strey) Gotter. He was raised on the family farm, and received his education in Granton area schools. After his father’s death in 1942, his mother kept the family in Granton until moving to Loyal in 1945, where he graduated from Loyal High School in 1949. After completing his education, Elmer worked for area farmers and for Trindal’s feed elevator, picking up and delivering supplies to local farmers. He was united in marriage to Velma M. Gardner on Dec. 8, 1951, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. They soon moved to Milwaukee, where he worked for Miller Brewing Company, Globe Steel, Square D Electrical Company, and drove a taxi cab. They moved back to Clark County where they bought a farm in Withee and Elmer worked part-time for Will Implement. In 1962, they purchased a larger farm north of Loyal and farmed for 38 years until moving into Loyal. Elmer then drove truck for Roehl Transport and Sternweis concrete until retiring. He had many interests, but especially enjoyed farming, watching his fields grow, bowling and playing cards. Elmer was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal.
