Dorene Wetzel

On Aug. 20, 2022, Dorene A. (Irvine) Wetzel passed at the age of 81 after a long battle with cancer. It would be wrong to say that Dorene lost her battle, because she never stopped fighting. Through her resilience and determination, we know what strength and courage really look like.

Born in Greenwood on June 5, 1941, to Quinton & Dorothy (nee Vollrath) Irvine, Dorene was the youngest of four children -- brother Victor Irvine and sisters Joan Gruber and Jackie Rogstad.

Dorene’s great loves were her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, cats and birds. Of course, we cannot forget cribbage and the card games she enjoyed as well. Her baking and cooking skills were enjoyed by many. In the condolences, there were memories of her baked care packages sent overseas to the troops and her amazing potato salad. She retired from Cedar Lake Community Retirement Center in West Bend, where she cared for others as a CNA for decades.

Dorene is survived by her sister, Joan (Tim) Gruber of Greenwood; her four children: Terry (Kurt) Huegel, Todd Wetzel, Fred (Angel) Wetzel, and Martin Wetzel; and seven grandchildren: Dani, Clint, Logan, Hailey, Alexis, Sophie and Austin.
