John Lee Agen
1944-2022
John Lee Agen, 78 of Gilman passed away on Saturday, August 6, 2022 at his home. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 28, 2022 at the Gilman Funeral Home with Rev. Kenneth Schmidt officiating. Inurnment with Military Honors will follow in Meadowbrook Cemetery- Gilman. Visitation will be from 1:30 p.m. until time of service.
He was born on April 10, 1944 in Milwaukee the son of the late Arne and Helen (Hahs) Agen. John’s family moved to the Cumberland area where he graduated from Cumberland High. He went on to receive his bachelors in Education from UW-Stevens Point. John then served in the US Army during Vietnam from 1967-1970. After his time in the service, he came back to Wisconsin. He married Connie Reiter on June 20, 1970 at First Lutheran Church in Cumberland. John started his career teaching one year for the Greenwood Schools and then taught Special Education for the next 30 at Gilman Schools eventually receiving his Master Degree from UW Eau Claire. He was an active member of the community; in the Gilman VFW, American Legion, a member of the Gilman Fire Dept for over 40 years and an EMT for 10 years. John enjoyed fishing, deer hunting, bowling, playing cards; especially 500 rummy. However, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his children, Kristine Agen of Fort Wayne, Ind., John Agen, Jr. of Eau Claire, and Kayla (Dustin) Hayes of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren, Zane, Korrigan, Addison, Ty, Mya, Lucy, Colton, Lincoln and Porter; and his brother, Roger Agen of San Francisco, Calif.
John was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Connie (May 9); and his brother, Alan.
