Verjean H. Kunze, age 85, of Abbotsford, passed away surrounded by her loving family on Monday, July 11, 2022, at the Colonial Center in Colby, under the tender care of St. Croix Hospice A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Help of Christians Catholic Parish in Colby on Saturday, July 16, 2022. Father Joseph Redfern will preside. Interment to follow at St. Mary Catholic Cemetery in Colby. Family and friends are welcome on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or the website. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.
Verjean was born on July 17, 1936, the daughter of Alphonse and Gertrude (Kaiser) Schmitt in the Town of Hull, Marathon County. She graduated from Colby High School. On August 18, 1954, Verjean was united in marriage to Lawrence Kunze. He preceded her in death on September 13, 2005. Together they farmed in the Town of Hull. She also worked at McDonalds and Abby Café and was famous for her pies and her Saturday morning sweet rolls.
Verjean enjoyed crocheting and knitting, was a great cook and baker. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Christian Mothers. Most importantly, Verjean loved and cherished her family.
Verjean is survived by seven children: Douglas Kunze of Abbotsford, Roger (Cindy) Kunze of Marshfield, David (Juleen) Kunze of Stratford, Margie (Dale) Rachu of Abbotsford, Rhonda (Rod) Folz of Appleton, Sandra (Greg) Staab of Hewitt and Amy (Tod) Thuot of Edgar; 20 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. She is further survived by two brothers and two sisters: Germaine (Fred) Redman, Mary Ann Scanlon, Linus (Joan) Schmitt and Timothy (Suzie) Schmitt; a sister-in-law, Delores Schmitt; a brother-in-law, Bernard (Beverly) Kunze; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her daughter, Peggy; a son-in-law, Mike Zettler; three brothers and seven sisters: Roman, Emery and Mark Schmitt, Rita Peterson, Maude Kocian, Carmen Fosdick, Naomi Kruse, Mercedes Lang, Blanch Zera and Pamela Schmitt; brothersin- law, Raymond and Gilbert Kunze and sisters-inlaw, Frances Angelich and Estella Sossaman.
We would like to thank St. Croix Hospice and Colonial Center for their tender care of our mom.
We will be forever grateful to Douglas for all the years he dedicated to caring for mom in her home.
