Lena Kurtz

Lena Mae Kurtz, age 54, of Myerstown, Pa., passed away on Friday, June 3, 2022, at her sister and brother-in-law’s residence in Unity, with her family by her side.

Services will be held Friday, June 10, 2022, at 9:30 a.m. at Bowmansville Mennonite Church in the Town of Brecknock, Lancaster County, Pa. Pallbearers will be Jonathan Leinbach, Gerald Leinbach, Kevin Weaver, Jason Martin, Glenn Martin, Ronald Martin, Matthew Leinbach and Arlin Weaver. Visitation was held on Monday, June 6, 2022, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at her sister and brother-in-law’s residence (N11251 Fairhaven Avenue, Unity). The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is assisting the family with arrangements.

Lena was born on September 24, 1967, in Myerstown, Lancaster County, Pa., the daughter of Paul H. and Lena N. (Martin) Kurtz. She attended special education classes at various locations. She was born with the rare disease called MSUD. Her life was sprinkled with hospital stays. As she aged she became immobile and needed a wheelchair. Lena was usually very pleasant to care for except when she wasn’t well. She did suffer much in her life. Lena enjoyed travelling, playing with dolls and singing.

Lena is survived by her mother, Lena N. Kurtz; four sisters: Lois (Clair) Hoover of Morgantown, Pa., Ellen (Galen) Martin of Reinholds, Pa., Joyce (Allen) Leinbach of Unity and Esther (Marlin) Weaver of Unity.

She was preceded in death by her father, Paul H. Kurtz; sisters: Grace on September. 7, 1975, and Pauline on October 12, 2019; grandparents and one nephew.
