Alice Ule was born on April 1, 1924, in Willard, to Joseph and Mary (nee Lovko) Ule. She was raised on the family farm in Willard, and attended both North Willard School and Greenwood High school, graduating in 1942. She was a member of the Greenwood Public Library Board and after her family was raised, she became the director of the Greenwood Public Library for 18 years. Alice was instrumental in starting the children’s story hour program and building the city’s library into one of the most highly used, small-town libraries. She was cited by the Greenwood Chamber of Commerce as “Outstanding Citizen of the year” on Feb. 3, 1991, for her contribution to the community. In 1992, Alice was named top “Greenwood High School Alumnus.” She enjoyed quilting and made many quilts for her family and others. She also made many lap robes for the hospital. Alice loved to read, and enjoyed nature as well as her rock hounding trips with her husband. She loved spending time with her family and was very proud of her Slovenian heritage.
