Joyce A. Bulgrin, 80, Stevens Point, formerly of Greenwood, died on Friday, May 20, 2022, at the House of the Dove in Marshfield. Private family burial will occur with a celebration of life to be held at Rustic Occasions, N8349 Miller Ave., Loyal, on June 4 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m.

Joyce A. Albert was born on Jan. 27, 1942, in Neillsville. The only child of Alvin and Leona (nee Franz) Albert, she was proud to have received her early childhood education in a 1-room school house in Greenwood, where her mother was her teacher. She graduated with a bachelor’s of science in medical technology from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire in 1964. She received her master’s degree in health care administration from Central Michigan University in 1986. Joyce started her career as a medical technologist in Marshfield, eventually working at labs in Amarillo, Texas, Pekin, Ill., and Stevens Point. She ultimately chose her true path in healthcare education, teaching in Texas, at Illinois Central College, and eventually at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, where she taught and advised nursing and medical technology students until her retirement in 2014. She was the favorite instructor of many, helping to influence their career paths while leaving them with many stories and the amusing sayings for which she was known. And just as her mother had taught her, Joyce taught her daughter, Bronnyn, in the medical technology program. Joyce married Lyle Bulgrin in Greenwood on Oct. 7, 1967. They had three children – Bryce (Stevens Point), Bronnyn (husband Scott Wettstein – Custer), and Bethany (Eau Claire). She was a loving and devoted mother to her children, and delighted in spending a lot of time with her only grandchild, granddaughter Quinn Wettstein. Joyce was an avid bird watcher, and enjoyed feeding birds plus other critters in her yard. She loved to travel, having been to 49 states and three continents, with travel to Europe in 1967 and Africa in 2013. She went on a storm-chasing adventure, to the Winter Olympics in Vancouver in 2010, and on multiple trips to Bayfield, Door County, and Florida in recent years. She has also always been known as the family historian, studying genealogy with a special interest in the stories behind the history. Joyce was a kind and loving woman who was known for her gentle nature and infectious smile. She will be dearly missed by her family, including feline companions, Grayson and Hugo.

Preceding her in death were her parents and also her husband, who passed away in 2006.

Mom, Grandma – just like with Dad, we saw the geese! God go with you until we meet again.
