Mary M. Lencz
1922-2022
Mary M. Lencz, 100, formerly of Gilman, died Sunday, Feb. 20, 2022 at the WI Veteran’s Home-Chippewa Falls. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 26 at Saints Peter & Paul Catholic Church-Gilman with Father Vijay Kumar officiating. Burial will follow in Meadowbrook Catholic Cemetery-Gilman. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.
She was born at the family home near Polley to the late John and Anna (Pasyk) Kowalczyk. Mary married Frank Lencz on Nov. 27, 1941 in Chicago, Ill. The couple returned to the area after Frank’s service to his country and had a farm for four years. Then, after Frank started for the post office the couple moved to Gilman and lived there for many years.
She enjoyed her garden, flowers, cooking, playing cards, fishing and camping and going to the casino. Mary was a member of The Gilman Red Hats, the Rosary Society, the Legion Auxiliary and the Lions Club.
She is survived by her children, Steven (Eileen) Lencz of Maplewood, Mo., Alexis (David) Goebel of Gilman, Jennifer (Jerry) Mallo of Waukesha and Peggy (Earl) Hinkel of Stanley; 16 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren; six great great grandchildren; sisters, Edna Duffy of Milwaukee and Rose Bujak of Chicago; her sister-in-law, Ella Welgos; and brother-in-law, John and (Toni) Lencz.
Mary was preceded in death by her husband, Frank (2019); her parents; grandson, Michael Goebel; brothers, Alex, Frank, Constantine “Gus” and Joseph Kowalczyk; and sister, Sophie Gundstead.
