2022

Steven R. Fritsche, 71, died peacefully at home on Feb. 4, 2022, of bile duct cancer. A celebration of Steve’s life is tentatively planned for June 2022 in Milwaukee. Please see www.feerickfuneralhome. com for updates. He was born in Medford, son of Arthur and Elaine (Niemuth) Fritsche. He was a graduate of Medford High School and had degrees in sociology and architecture from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. He retired in 2011 after nearly 34 years with the City of Milwaukee in Building Inspection/ Neighborhood Services.

Steve had a great sense of humor with a dry wit. He enjoyed films and was an avid participant in the annual Milwaukee Film Festival. He loved taking photos and traveling, especially visiting art museums and architectural sights. As a discerning craftsman and a man of many projects, Steve had an eye for color and design, and enjoyed working with his hands. There wasn’t anything he couldn’t create or improve. Also, a talented illustrator, Steve was appreciated for his creative and politically biting holiday cards. He loved getting together with friends and family.

Steve is survived by wife, Carolyn Wood; daughter, Nora Gallagher (Ulrich Boser); son, Murray Hayes (Sofia Vela Hayes); son, Makho Mashoba; granddaughters, Alina and Kaya Schwartz; granddaughters, Leila and Sonja Boser; grandsons, Ian Hubbard and Hamilton Mashoba; and mother, Elaine Fritsche.

Steve was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Fritsche; and brothers, Alan and Thomas Fritsche.

Steve leaves us with these words: Thanks to all my friends for all the support you have given me. I had a great life with a great love. I apologize for not making my annual holiday card; 2021’s theme would have been “less acrimony, more love.”
