Skip (Harold) Hornick, of Eugene, Ore., passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side on January 30 after a prolonged illness.

Born in Madison to Harry and Cecil Hornick on Sept. 10, 1950, he was raised around the Lodi area until his family moved to St. Paul, Minn., at age five, where he graduated from Mounds View High School in May 1968. He then joined the United States Air Force where he served honorably in Vietnam until his discharge in 1972. Skip worked for JC Penny for a number of years heading up their drapery and blind installation services on the west coast. He then moved to Oregon where he started his own successful blind, drapery and cleaning business for several years, serving the Portland and Eugene areas, eventually selling the business and retiring.

Skip enjoyed riding motorcycle, hunting, fishing, traveling, spending time with his wife, Shelly, and visiting his family. He was an avid member of the Oregon Veterans Motorcycle Association and was a huge advocate of all veterans. Skip is survived by his loving and caring wife, Shelly; son, Michael (Taylor); and grandchildren: Michael Jr., Lucas and Emalyn of Summerville, N.C.; mother, Cecil Hornick-Ewert of Colby; brother, Earl (Carolyn) Hornick of Brandon, Fla.; sister, Barb Rahn of Bemidji, Minn.; brother Darrell (Jean) Hornick of Holcombe; brothers-in-law: Vic, Steve, Sam, Sid and Stacy Alani in the Eugene, Ore., area; stepdaughter, Abby (Justin) Alani, stepgrandson, Kairyn; stepson, Max (Lauren) Jones and step-grandsons: Bryson and Cash, also in the Eugene, Ore., area, along with many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Harry Hornick; stepfather, Myron Ewert; brother-in-law, Terry Rahn; father-in-law, Stanley Alani; mother-inlaw, Surintha Alani; sisters-in-law, Serena Millican and Surintha Jenkins; stepson, Jeremy Crow; and grandson, Jared Crow. A celebration of life will be held at a later date in both Eugene, Ore., and Wisconsin.
