Bernice C. Horacek, age 100, of Abbotsford, passed away on Sunday, Jan.

9, 2022, at the Aspirus Medford Hospital.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 14, 2022, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Colby.

Father Michael Hayden will preside.

Interment to follow at the Abbotsford Public Cemetery. Family and friends are welcome on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Live stream will be available for those unable to attend on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or the website. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.

Bernice was born on Sept. 11, 1921, the daughter of Frank and Alma (Denzin) Zahorka, in the Town of Holton. She attended Wright School in the Town of Holton. Bernice was united in marriage to Albert Horacek on Aug. 26, 1941, at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Milan. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1987.

Bernice started working at the age of 15 at the Milan post office. After her marriage to Albert, they farmed in the Town of Holton. After selling the farm, they moved to Abbotsford. Bernice also worked at the Colby Nursing Home for 17 years. She also was a drummer in a polka band with her husband and her daughter, Kathy.

Bernice is survived by her three children: Kathy (Marvin) Skrzypcak of Edgar, Jerry (Bonita) Horacek of Abbotsford and Diane Horacek of Abbotsford; ten grandchildren: Lori (Dale) Krause, Mark (Annette) Skrzypcak, Terri (Trent) Schelvan, Scott Skrzypcak, Dawn (Kevin) Joachim, Sherri (Mike) Tanner, Tammy (Dave) Kohler, Jim (Meridith) Horacek, Jeff Horacek and Justin Horacek; 30 great-grandchildren; eight greatgreat- grandchildren and two step-great-greatgrandchildren. She is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers: Art and Ervin Zahorka and a sister, Anna Haderlein.
