Phillip Martin

Phillip Huber Martin, age 37 years, 9 months, and 29 days, of Colby, passed away on Monday, Dec. 20, 2021, at 1:02 p.m., at U.W. Meriter Hospital in Madison.

Visitation hours were at Bethany Mennonite Church in the Town of Eau Plaine on Sunday, Dec. 26, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and 5 to 8 p.m. A funeral service was held at Marathon Church in the Town of Frankfort on Monday, Dec. 27 at 9:30 a.m. His final resting place will be at Bethany Mennonite Church Cemetery. Presiding ministry were Troy Schrock, Randall Martin, Ray Hoover, Paul Wesley Oberholtzer, Jerry Brubaker and Scott Hoover. Pallbearers were Joshua Martin, Jesse Martin, Michael Martin, Wesley Martin, Richard Martin, Timothy Martin, Matthew Oberholtzer, Kevin Burkholder and Eldon Weaver.

Phillip was born on Feb. 21, 1984, in Ephrata, Pa., the first child of Virgil H. and Eunice L. (Huber) Martin. He was united in marriage to Joanna Herr (Oberholtzer) Martin on May 27, 2006, at the home of the bride in Unity. They lived together in Colby for 15.5 years. Phillip excelled in being a careful semi driver for his occupation the majority of his life.

In Oct. of 2021, he passed his physical exam for CDL’s with flying colors. Phillip was a healthy man with no known health issues. On Nov. 30, 2021, he woke up with a fever. On Dec. 7, 2021, he tested positive for the Delta strain of COVID. On Dec. 20, 2021, he peacefully exchanged time for eternity, while his wife and parents stood by his bedside. We have peace in knowing in the final hours of life, before sedation for the ventilator, he settled his account with the Lord. Thank You Jesus!

Phillip is survived by his wife, Joanna H. Martin of Colby; six children: Heidi Jo (14 years), Melody Dawn (12 years), Daisy Fern (10 years), Oscar Ryan (8 years), Angie Marie (6 years) and Delmar Wayne (4 years). He is further survived by his parents, Virgil and Eunice Martin of Colby; maternal grandparents, Eli and Emma Huber of Narvon, Pa.; siblings, Twila (Timothy) Martin of Loyal, Joshua (Kendra) Martin of Owen, Nichole (Matthew) Oberholtzer of Unity, Jesse Martin of Abbotsford, Kayleen (Kevin) Burkholder of Colby, Michael (Delores) Martin of Colby, Julia (Eldon) Weaver of Thorp, Wesley Martin and Richard Martin, both of Colby; and 25 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, H. Moses and Anna N. Martin; uncle, Raymond Martin; cousins, Justin Ray Huber and Jonathan Martin; as well as his father-in-law, Amos W. Oberholtzer.
