Marie Thompson
Marie E. Thompson, age 97, of Abbotsford, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital.
A funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2021, at the Curtiss Alliance Church. Family and friends were welcomed from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Tuesday at the church. Interment will take place in the spring. Family and friends could watch the service live on the Maurina Schilling Funeral Home Facebook page or after the service anytime on Facebook or the website. The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home in Abbotsford is entrusted with the arrangements.
Marie was born on Sept. 12, 1924, the daughter of Fred and Luella (Sharp) Clintsman in Greenwood. She attended a one-room country school and graduated from Greenwood High School. Marie dreamed of becoming a teacher and so she received her teaching certificate from UW-Eau Claire. Following graduation, she taught at several country schools in Clark County. Later she returned to school attending St. Paul’s Bible School. From there she went to work at the Dessie Scott Children’s Home in Pine Ridge, Ky.
Marie met Alfred Thompson and they were married on Nov. 27, 1965, at the Greenwood Methodist Church. They farmed together in the Curtiss area.
He preceded her in death in 1987 and she moved to Abbotsford where she served in the Foster Grandparent program in the Abbotsford Schools for 20 years. Marie was very active in her church for many years, including teaching Sunday School, leader of the Women’s Group and the Joy Class. She was also musically talented and could play the organ and piano. Marie is survived by her two stepchildren: Dale (Arla) Thompson of Monroe and Karen (Steve) Brown of Unity; step-grandchildren; step-greatgrandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by her two sisters: Shirley Kurth of Wausau and Nellie Goetz of Minocqua; a brother, Ted Clintsman of Wausau; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sister, Irene Holman, her brother, Dale (Connie) Clintsman and her brothers-in-law, Jin Goetz and Ray Kurth.
The family wants to thank all those who care for Marie in the past few years.
