David James Mavis was born on Aug. 28, 1964, in Belvidere, Ill., the son of Earl R. and Dorothy E. (nee Murphy) Mavis. He was raised on a farm in Marengo, Ill., until his family moved to Greenwood in 1978, where they purchased a farm. Dave graduated from Greenwood High School in 1982. After high school, he continued farming with his father. Dave was united in marriage to Annette T. Fravert on Sept. 1, 1990, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Loyal. He continued farming with his father until 1996, when he went to work for Nelson Muffler, now Cummins Filtration, in Neillsville. Dave worked there until his passing. He was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the GWR Snowmobile Club, and coached basketball and baseball when his kids were younger. Dave had many interests, but especially loved spending time with his grandchildren, constructing buildings with his father, cutting wood, hunting, snowmobiling, loved his naps, camping, watching sports, and collecting toy Case International tractors.

He will be dearly missed by his wife, Anne, of Greenwood; his children: C.J. (Lena) Mavis of Altoona, Ashley (Dustin) Charneski of Greenwood, and Nick (Brooke) Mavis of Eau Claire; nine grandchildren: Keegan, Grayson, Preston, Ava, Declan, Owen, Liam, Hunter, and William; his siblings: Kathy (Jim) Mechler of Belvidere, Ill., Deb (Jim) Barr of Willard, Bob (Kelly Masek) Mavis of Augusta, and Deanna (Greg) Heiman of Neillsville; his mother-in-law: Sue Fravert of Loyal; and several nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

Dave was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Dorothy; one niece, Michelle Montgomery; and his father-in-law, Dennis Fravert.

The family would like to thank the staff at Marshfield Hospital on MICU for their compassion and big hearts for everything they did for Dave.
