Amos Oberholtzer

Amos W. Oberholtzer, age 70 years, 3 months, and 24 days, of Owen, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2021, at Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., as a result of an automobile accident. Services will be held at 9:30 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 19, at Popple Ridge Mennonite Church in the town of Mayville. His final resting place will be at the church cemetery. Earl Oberholtzer, Elvin Hoover, Wilmer Oberholtzer, and Jerry Brubaker will officiate. Pallbearers will be Timothy Oberholtzer, Amos Oberholtzer Jr., Landis Sensenig, Matthew Weaver, Phillip Martin, and Kenton Sensenig. Visitation will be held on Thursday, Nov. 18, from noon-3 p.m., and from 5-8 p.m., at the church.

Amos was born on July 18, 1951, in Lebanon, Pa., the son of Levi N. and Lizzie B. (nee Weaver) Oberholtzer. He served two years in the selective service system as a 1-W. Amos was united in marriage to Alma W. Herr in 1972. Amos farmed in Missouri for 10 years and then spent nine years doing construction work in Pennsylvania, moving to Wisconsin in 1993 to a dairy farm until his retirement in 2011. During his retirement, he did taxi work and as a hobby had an animal health store. Amos loved meeting people and enjoyed being involved in community activities. He passed his love of singing on to his family. He will be greatly missed by all.

Amos is survived by his wife, Alma W. Oberholtzer of Owen; his children: Rhoda (Landis) Sensenig of Owen, Lorraine (Matthew) Weaver of Loyal, Timothy (Kimberly) Oberholtzer of Unity, Joanna (Phillip) Martin of Colby, and Amos (Marcea) Oberholtzer Jr. of Withee; 28 grandchildren; his brothers: Paul (Mary Edna) Oberholtzer, Lloyd (Esther) Oberholtzer, Irvin (Edith) Oberholtzer, and Abner (Leora) Oberholtzer; one sister: Esther Huber; one brother-in-law: Edwin Hoover; and one sister-in-law: Miriam Oberholtzer.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Levi and Lizzie Oberholtzer; two sisters: Anna Hoover and Grace Huber; one brother: Leroy Oberholtzer; one brother-in-law: Martin Huber; and two sisters-in-law: Anna Oberholtzer and Verna Oberholtzer.

The Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Owen is entrusted with the arrangements.
