Angela ‘Angie’ Arch McHale
Angela M. “Angie” Arch McHale, 92, formerly of Greenwood, died on Tuesday, June 29, 2021, in Charlotte, N.C., where she lived for the last three years near her daughter, Debbie, and loving son-in-law, Pete, grandchildren and their families.
Angela Marie Arch was raised in the Greenwood area and was the last of the eight children of Louis and Elizabeth “Lizie” Arch. All are now deceased. The Arch family farm is three miles east of Willard and was established in 1917-18 and is still held by Arch family. After graduation from Greenwood High School, Angie lived in Milwaukee with her two older sisters, Betty and Julie. From Milwaukee she eventually traveled by train with a friend to Washington, D.C. They had originally planned to join one of the military services but were too young at the time. So with her typing skills, she was employed by the federal government, where she then met and married Austin P. “Mac” McHale Jr., of Hazelton, Pa. They had three children and eventually lived in Paris and Rome with Mac’s job at the Department of State. Angie “from the farm” was proud to say that she visited more than 20 different countries. A special moment/visit was to her brother Stephen’s grave with her sister, Julie, at the Normandy American Cemetery in France.
Angie was preceded in death by her dear son, Patrick, and the man who loved her so, her spouse Austin “Mac”.
She is survived by her children: Debbie McHale Comstock and Stephen Arch McHale; their spouses, Pete and Suzanne; the wife of her late son, Patrick, Sharon Joyce McHale; and her grandchildren: Kristin, Nicholas, Austin and Michael.
Angie’s ashes will be laid next to her husband at Fairfax Memorial Park Cemetery. The funeral mass will be at her parish at St. Bernadette’s in Springfield, Va., on Aug. 7.
