Eddie Voss
Eddie J. Voss, age 80, of Colby, passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 1, 2020, at the Marshfield Medical Center surrounded by his loving family.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020. Rev. Chris Schwanz predised. Visitation was from 1 p.m. until the time of service on Saturday at the church. Interment followed at Dorchester Memorial Cemetery with military honors provided by the Colby VFW Post #2227. Family and friends watched the service live on the funeral home’s Facebook page or after service anytime on Facebook or the website. We encouraged those in attendance to abide by the COVID-19 guidelines by sanitizing, wearing a mask (if able) and social distancing. Maurina-Schilling Funeral Home of Colby is entrusted with the arrangements.
Eddie was born on Sept. 20, 1940, the son of Edmund and Mildred (Ecke) Voss in the town of Mayville. He graduated from Abbotsford High School in 1959. Eddie served in the Army National Guard from 1959-65 and was called up to Fort Lewis in Washington during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On May 2, 1964, he was united in marriage to Arla Mae Ramker at Zion Lutheran Church in Colby. Eddie and Arla farmed in the town of Holton for 26 years and he later drove a logging truck and milk truck. He eventually drove a school bus for Head Start and later became a step worker at Colby Elementary School. Eddieenjoyedtravelingandsocializing with his sisters-in-law and brothersin- law, Marlene (Galen) Schreiber and Karen (Gary) Grieser. He thought of them as his own brothers and sisters. Eddie loved being active with his children and grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved camping, hunting, fishing, telling stories, and spending time with family.
Eddie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Arla Mae of Colby; three children: Darrell (Annette) of Unity, Darren (Sara) of Dorchester and Deanna (Lyle) Burt of Unity; five grandchildren: Erin, Mason and Gavin Voss, Aiden and Riley Burt; one step-granddaughter, Crystal Skipper; two stepgreat- grandchildren: Donald and Diana Skipper. He is further survived by his sister, Bonnie (Jon) Jensen; nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Lannie Voss.
