JoAnne Ahlers, 70, of Chippewa Falls, formerly of Jump River, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Monday, Aug. 24, 2020 at Marshfield Medical Center-Eau Claire. Visitation will start at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 29 at the Gilman Funeral Home. A memorial service and inurnment will be held at 1 p.m. at Meadowbrook Catholic Cemetery. The family asks that all in attendance please follow social distancing and wear a mask at all times.

JoAnne was born on Nov. 5, 1949 at Victory Memorial Hospital-Stanley to the late Joseph and Elizabeth (Prasnicky) Komanec. JoAnne grew up in the Gilman area and graduated from Gilman High School in 1967. She married Jeff Ahlers on April 12, 1969 at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church-Gilman. JoAnne worked for the Gilman School District as a secretary and school bus driver, as well as the Gilman Bank and Gilman Feed. She enjoyed gardening, bird watching and spoiling her only granddaughter. In her earlier years she would be found snowmobiling, bowling, playing softball and shooting pool. She was known for her sharp wit, sarcasm and good practical jokes. Most of all, she loved her family and she was a true mother bear.

JoAnne is survived by her husband of 51 years, Jeff; her children, Jason Ahlers of Denver, Colo., Jahn (Anna Goebel) Ahlers of Eau Claire and Janna (Rhonda Renfroe) Ahlers and their daughter, Zola Jo, all of Prior Lake, Minn.; her siblings, Joe (Lynne) Komanec, John Komanec, Rose Reyzer and Tina (Roger) Nichols, all of Gilman, Louise Komanec of Woodbury, Minn. and George (Roxanne) Komanec of Bloomer; and many nieces and nephews.

JoAnne was preceded in death by her parents; and sister in law, Donna Komanec.
