1950-2020

John Richard Seidl, beloved father, grandfather, brother and uncle, passed away Jan. 28, 2020. A celebration of life is planned for Thursday, March 12, at 10 a.m. at Walker Methodist Chapel, 3737 Bryant Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN. Friends and family are welcome at 9:30 a.m. John was born on June 27, 1950 in Stanley and grew up in Medford. He graduated from UW-Green Bay, where he met and married Christine (Knodle) Seidl, with whom he raised their three children in Green Bay.

Over the past six years, John enjoyed being the “live-in” grandpa in Tonka Bay, Minn., attending his grandkids’ plays, concerts, soccer games and dance performances. He also loved visiting his family in France as often as possible. John shared his passion for art with his children and grandkids, which culminated in a “Grateful Dad Art Show,” on Oct. 25, 2019. The event showcased 70 paintings and drawings John created over his lifetime.

John bravely battled Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) in the last 18 months of his life, with a sense of humor and positive mindset. The family is indebted to Health Partners Neuroscience Clinic, Health Partners Hospice and the ALS Assn. of MN/ SD/ND for their compassionate care and support of John after his ALS diagnosis.

John will be deeply missed by his children, Peter Seidl and Sarah (Kim) Affolter, all of Tonka Bay, Minn. and Hannah Seidl of Paris, France; his grandchildren, Christine, Ben, Chloè, Emily and Abby; his siblings, Tom (Rose) Seidl of Sterling Heights, Mich., Mark (Judi) Seidl of Wausau, Mary (Ollie) Larsen of Two Rivers, Jim Seidl of Barboursville, Va. and Mick (Jen) Seidl of Portland, Ore.; mother of their three children, Christine (Andrew Waterman) Seidl of Green Bay; numerous nieces and nephews; and a close circle of friends who knew and loved him.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Peter J.Seidl and Marjorie (Farmer) Seidl of Medford.
