Helen L. Wachsmuth

Helen L. Wachsmuth, 90, of Gilman, died on Wednesday, Oct. 16, 2019. A funeral service was held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 21 at New Hope Presbyterian Church in Hannibal with Pastor Bev Thompson officiating. Burial followed at Meadowbrook Cemetery in Gilman. Visitation was one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Helen was born on March 9, 1929 to the late Edwin and Inga (Petersen) Russell. She grew up in the area and graduated from Hannibal High School. On June 29, 1946 she married James C. Wachsmuth at the Hannibal Presbyterian Church. Helen was a homemaker and worked as a CNA at Medford Memorial Hospital for 30 years. She enjoyed knitting, bingo, “girl’s weekend” and playing cards at the senior center. Helen is survived by her children, Charles (Diane) of Holcombe, Richard (Shirley) of Jump River, Rev. Wayne (Luann) of Mount Prospect, Ill., Robin (Lori Tomberlin) Wachsmuth of Brainerd, Minn., Janice (Charles) Evers of Thorp, Sheree (Andy) Carlson of Lake Geneva and Judy (Mike) Hafterson of Hudson; many grandchildren; great-grandchildren; a few great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Betty Mae Dorova of Tomahawk; and two brothers, Ivan (Annette) Russell of Cambridge, Minn. and Donald (Joan) Russell of Fridley, Minn.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James in 2002; her sons, James B. and Jerry; two sons in infancy, Ronald and Randy; two brothers, Wayne and Melvin Russell; and two sisters, Rose Sweet and Ethel Foster.

Plombon Funeral Service of Gilman assisted the family.
