By Ginna Young An agreement has been reached with Ntera, the Cadott Fire Department and Cadott Village Board, to lease a 30x30 area by the northeast corner where the fire station sits. In doing so, Ntera intends to build a small hut, which, eventually, will supply service to the entire village.

“I don’t know if we will build it right away,” said Russ Falkenberg, president/CEO of Chippewa Valley Electric Co-op, at a village meeting, April 7.

Depending on a number of factors, it’s likely Ntera will install a temporary splitter cabinet, that can serve that neighborhood, then, as they outgrow it, the hut will be constructed.

“We’re bringing our backbone into that hut,” said Falkenberg.

The fiber will reach the location within a few weeks, and be live at that site, with service coming online for people at the end of summer. Falkenberg knows that people want service immediately, but that it takes time.

“We have to start somewhere,” he said. Members also agreed on a kennel license for Matthew and Michelle Wurzer, at their home on North Main Street.

“We’re not planning to breed dogs, we’re not planning to board dogs, we just want to have our three dogs,” said Michelle.

The couple now have three dogs, because their son and daughter-in-law moved back home, with their two dogs, while looking for a house to purchase. Those plans got derailed, as their son volunteered for overseas deployment, so the Wurzers decided their daughter-in-law should continue to live with them.

“We didn’t want his new wife and their two dogs to be on their own,” said Michelle.

Seeing as there were no objections, and that their neighbors, Ken and Dorothy Krouse said they didn’t even know there were dogs on the property, and have no issue with the Wurzers, the license was approved. Once their son returns from service, the additional dogs will follow him and his wife to their new house, wherever that may be.

The board also awarded the contract for the County Hwy. X Street improvements projects to McCabe Construction. The estimate from Cedar Corp. was $850,000, but McCabe, at the lowest bid, came in at $714,000.

During the meeting, trustee Ronnie Duncan reported that a new “Welcome to Cadott” sign is in the works, coming from the east on State Hwy. 29. The sign would sit on state right-of-way, with road access, and needs solar lighting or reflective paint, instead.

“It’s in design phase” said Duncan. Shawn Kromrey is spearheading the project, with money set aside from the Cadott Economic Development Corporation. The funds are there and the village has been assured the state will grant access for the sign.

“It’s just a matter of getting it done,” said Duncan.

(To the right) A similar building will be constructed by Ntera, at the Cadott Fire Department property, in order to bring fiber service into the village. For the time being, a splitter cabinet may be constructed, before the full backbone of the hut is ready.
