By Ginna Young There’s always something going on with the Student Councils at Cornell, both in the elementary and high school. This February, for example, the elementary Student Council collected pop tabs for the Ronald McDonald House. Through their efforts, they raised $192, with the winning class the kindergartners, who get to have an ice cream sundae party.

The high school Student Council is also busy, planning and working to make their community a better place. One way of doing so, is to hold blood drives, with another coming up in April.

“The last blood drive brought in a lot of high schoolers – over half our donors were high schoolers – that was really nice,” said Student Council representative Addy DeJongh.

DeJongh was on-hand, March 24, for the monthly Cornell School Board meeting, as were some from the elementary Student Council. Board members enjoy having the youth come in to make their reports and would love to see more participation during the meetings.

That night, in the business portion, the board approved the hire of head track coach Laurie Bowe; and assistant track coach Grace Grunseth.

It was also reported that the solar project is moving forward, with driving of the posts taking place.

“The steel is here for that,” said superintendent Paul Schley.

Did you know there are lending libraries scattered through rural Cadott, such as the one on 40th Avenue? Well, there are, known as the Edson Little Libraries, filled with books for anyone to “checkout.”
