Jazz it up at Cadott and ring in the holiday season
Margaret (Rhonda Mataczysnki, Holcombe, left) and Lena (Brenda Danielson, Cadott/Ladysmith), dream about what they could do with $500 if they win the local Muskrat Lodge talent contest. The duo were on stage Nov. 17, as part of The Potsdam Follies at the Heyde Center in Chippewa Falls, in a comedic production based off the Ole and Lena gags. Of course, merriment and mayhem abounded, as the ladies were joined by their bumbling husbands, Sven (Michael Doran, Ladysmith) and Keith Pitsch (Jim Falls).
By Ginna Young Smooth jazz, art and tasty treats combine, Saturday, Dec. 7, to ring in the holiday season at the Cadott High School, as part of Holiday Jazz Night. Beginning at 7 p.m., jazz band students will perform favorites for those gathered, while the consumer science classes offer their creations for sampling.
Also, as part of the event, the art classes will display their unique mediums for people to admire.
Admission is a free will offering, with the goal to raise $1,000, to purchase polo shirts for the band kids to wear for all performances. Currently, the youth have no “uniforms” and director Jim Aerts knows it would be nice to have the students match when performing in public.
However, he doesn’t want to put a financial burden on families in order to achieve that. Even if people can’t give toward the goal, they are still welcome to attend the event.
“It is going to be a great festive night, full of holiday jazz music and a celebration of our classes during the first half of the year,” said Aerts. “A jazz holiday concert is the perfect way to get in the mood for the holiday season.”
