10 Years Ago – 2014 Fourth-grade students at Cadott, research their heritage and culture, as part of a school project to find out life stories of ancestors. The youth began their search by discovering what traditions or customs were present in their lineage.

20 Years Ago – 2004 Lake Holcombe Elementary is praised as a New Wisconsin School of Recognition, during a ceremony at the state Capitol. The educational institution emphasizes academic skill through creativity, the arts, problem-solving and critical thinking, which prepares them to be successful in life.

30 Years Ago – 1994 Winds on top the hill where River Country Plaza is located, are usually quite brisk, but an especially windy day leaves the business sign pole snapped in two. It’s likely the replacement sign will be made of sturdier stuff to withstand the winds.

40 Years Ago – 1984 Landfill stickers will see a hike in price with the start of the new year, with the costs twice as much for Cornell residents. Also doubled, were the fees paid by Flintkote, whose rates go from $2,000 to $4,000.

50 Years Ago – 1974 Bob Greer, formerly of Morrison, Ill., is named to fill the position of manager of Midland Co-op Service Store in Cadott, taking over for Roger Nelson, who vacated the job. Greer’s wife and seven children will remain in Illinois, for the time being, while he boards at Emil Burich’s, until the family decides what residence to purchase.

60 Years Ago – 1964 Linda Crosby may be only 17 years of age, but she’s been a baton twirler instructor since she was 13, teaching children younger than she. Crosby learned her twirling craft from Melody Sweeney, who gave baton lessons at the time. 100 Years Ago – 1924 Members of the Cornell American Legion challenge the Commercial Club to a rabbit hunt, to begin at sunrise and end at sunset. The losers of the staged hunt agree to serve a supper to the winners, along with a hearty helping of crow.
