By Ginna Young The weather is perfect and the leaves are changing, just in time for Cornell’s Homecoming. The weeklong celebration begins with a color run at noon, Sunday, Oct. 6, where anyone can join the free event.

For runners or walkers who don a white shirt, volunteers will happily throw colored powder at them, as they make their way down Main Street and around town. Registration starts at 11:30 a.m., so everyone is ready to hit the pavement.

When school is in session the next day, it’s formal vs. farmer day, while the volleyball and football players meet during Chief Time 2. The next day, it’s soccer mom vs. barbecue dad, with the volleyball and football players reading to the elementary kids.

The following day, it’s rhyme without reason, where two people dress up as different things, but the costumes rhyme. The students will also work on painting windows before school and the staff will play the winners of the athletes’ game.

Heading toward the weekend, it’s pink-out day, with a powderpuff football game that takes place during Chief Time 2. All that leads up to the home volleyball match with Lake Holcombe.

To bring the week to a close, it’s spirit day, with a pep rally planned during Chief Time 2, where students will take part in tug of war, Hungry, Hungry Hippos, a fashion show and class skits, and see who is crowned Homecoming king and queen. Once students are dismissed, a parade takes place down Main Street at 3 p.m., with the community invited to cheer on their students.

With everyone pumped up from the festivities, it’s time for the big football game at 7 p.m., against Alma Center-Lincoln.

“Time to show your Cornell pride,” said adviser Grace Grunseth.
