It was another goal met for the Cadott Hornets Wrestling team, as they took part in the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament Feb. 8, at Stanley-Boyd. Cadott came away with the victory over the best in the conference.

“Every wrestler placed in the top four of their bracket and each wrestler scored team points,” said Josh Spaeth. “The wrestlers were constantly working toward the pin and scoring bonus points.”

This year, the Hornets won the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament and Cloverbelt Conference Dual meet championship.

“The team has accomplished two of three goals this season,” said Spaeth. “The most important goal will come next weekend, in trying to win the Regional championship.”

Bringing home championship honors on the day, were freshman Brayden Sonnentag (106 pounds), freshman Tristan Drier (138), freshman Cole Pfeiffer (145), senior Josh Briggs (285), freshman Dawson Webster (152), senior Brady Spaeth (170) and sophomore Gavin Tegels (195).

Tegels won a come-from-behind match in the finals, while 2019 State champion B. Spaeth won his fourth consecutive Cloverbelt Conference Championship.

“He never lost a conference dual meet match or a match in the Cloverbelt Conference Tournament in his career as a Hornet,” said J. Spaeth. “This is quite a feat.”

Taking second at the tournament, were sophomore Kaleb Sonnentag (132), junior Nelson Wahl (160) and senior Ethan Tegels (220). Wrestling for third place, were junior Michael Pecha (160) and senior Steven Pfeiffer (182).

Placing fourth, were sophomore Logan Harel (113) and sophomore Ethan Duck (138).

The Hornets host Regionals this Saturday, with the fourth ranked Cadott taking on third ranked Stratford.

“Please consider coming to the Regional to support the wrestlers in their quest to qualify for the team Sectional,” said J. Spaeth.
