Hornets’ missed shots lead to dropped games
Cadott’s boys basketball team took on two tough conference opponents over the week’s time, with both matches ending in losses.
Jan. 7 vs. Thorp conference (L 62-45)
The Hornets were on the road against Thorp, looking to take down their opponent. Cadott trailed at halftime, 33-25, and couldn’t catch up in the second half, leading to a 62-45 loss.
“We played with great intensity throughout the game, but the shots just wouldn’t fall for us,” said coach Dusty Burish.
Leading the way for the Hornets, was senior Mason Poehls, with 16 points, followed by freshman Tegan Ritter, with 7.
Seniors Mitch Drilling and Ben Steffes, and freshman Eddie Mittermeyer each had 6 points, while junior Cole Sopiarz chipped in with 4.
Jan. 10 vs. Fall Creek conference (L 50-40)
Cadott was back on the road three nights later, this time facing off against Fall Creek.
“We started out the game strong on both ends of the floor,” said Burish.
After moving into the 2-3 zone in the first half, Burish says Cadott gave up too many points in the paint, going into halftime down 22-18.
The Hornets made adjustments in the second half, with the defense holding Fall Creek to 20 points.
“But, our shots did not fall for us,” said Burish. “We missed too many high percentage shots, but the boys played through till the end, not giving up.”
Unfortunately, the final score was 50-40, Fall Creek, keeping the Hornets winless in conference play.
“We gotta finish our high percentage opportunities,” said Burish.
Junior Brad Irwin topped the leader board for the Hornets on offense, scoring 14 points. Poehls followed that with 9 and Sopiarz added 8. Steffes contributed 3 points on the night, with Drilling and Ritter recording 2 points each.
