Thorp-Gilman finishes fall at Stratford
WIAA DIV. 2 STRATFORD CC SUBSECTIONAL
The Thorp-Gilman cross country coop completed its 2020 season Tuesday morning with five runners competing at the WIAA Division 2 Stratford subsectional.
Three of the team’s participants were in the boys race. Jacob Barth placed 36th out of 54 runners in a season-best time of 20:53, Braxton Stark was 40th in 21:41 and Wyatt Luzinski was 51st in 25:42.
Kate Schraufnagel was 32nd out of 45 girls runners with her time of 24:35 and Pepper-Rae Werner was 38th in 26:28.
The top two teams and top five individuals from non-qualifying teams advanced to Saturday’s sectional meet in Westby. The boys teams to move on were Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau (39) and Neillsville (89). Colby-Abbotsford (93) finished third, followed by Arcadia (101), Black River Falls (129), Loyal-Greenwood (137), Stratford (138) and Stanley-Boyd (190).
Gale-Ettrick-Trempealeau won the girls meet with 47 points, while Colby- Abbotsford (65) also advanced. Arcadia was third with 72 points, followed by Stratford (98), Loyal-Greenwood (111) and Neillsville. Thorp-Gilman, Stanley-Boyd and Black River Falls were incomplete.
Chase Oehmichen of Colby-Abbotsford won the boys race in 16:56, seven seconds ahead of Neillsville’s Skylar Drinka. The rest of the individual qualifiers were Arcadia’s Jose Monroy, third in 17:11; Loyal- Greenwood’s Avrey Horvath, ninth in 17:52; Kobe Nichols of Black River Falls, 10th in 18:17, and Stanley-Boyd’s Lukas Milas (18:26).
Loyal-Greenwood’s Savannah Schley won the girls race in 20:21, one second ahead of Arcadia’s Tegan Michalak. Also advancing individually were Arcadia’s Casidi Pehler, fourth in 20:52; Stanley-Boyd’s Janelle Schesel, seventh in 21:28, and Stratford’s Kressa Wenzel, 11th in 21:48.
