Half of Hawks’ roster gets back on track at Auburndale meet
HAWKS CROSS COUNTRY
With only Prentice athletes available, the Prentice-Rib Lake Hawks got back into action Tuesday after a three-week hiatus by competing at the Auburndale Marawood Quad, which turned into a triangular with Athens’ absence.
The girls were able to put together a five-runner team and placed third with 69 points. They trailed Auburndale (25) and Stratford (41) in the meet, held at Frey Field outside of Spencer. The meet was Prentice-Rib Lake’s first since Sept. 15 in Stratford.
Serena Moore made a push toward winning the meet and came up just short, placing second in 20:52. She trailed Auburndale’s Jordyn Karl by 24 seconds.
Leah Thums was 13th in the field of 22 girls with a time of 24:08. Jeann Johnson (29:23), Ryean Gorski (32:01) and Leslie Vance (39:14) were 20th, 21st and 22nd.
Auburndale’s Erricka Zenner (21:39) and McKenna Zieher (21:59) were third and fourth. Stratford’s Lydia Golbach (22:32) rounded out the top five.
The Hawks had three entrants in the boys race. They were led by Adam Granberg, who took sixth out of 16 runners in 19:17. Alex Schantner was 11th in 20:38 and Reese Isaacson was 15th at 22:06.
Auburndale posted a perfect team score of 15 by putting its top five finishers in first through fifth place ahead of Granberg. Carl Lundgren won it in 17:23, followed by Charles Jewell (18:25), Gavin White Eagle (19:03), Mason White Eagle (19:09) and Ian Grosskopf (19:14).
Stratford scored 44 points, led by seventh- place runner Lance Krieg (19:41).
The Marawood Conference meet is next on the schedule. It will be hosted by Marathon at Frey Field and is set to begin at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 15.
A revised post-season format, which features subsectional and sectional meets starts on Tuesday, Oct. 20.
As of Wednesday, the subsectional field includes the Hawks, Butternut, Hurley, Mercer, Phillips, Solon Springs-Northwood and South Shore. The site is to be determined.
