10 Years Ago – 2010

Cadott Junior High School is awarded Exemplary Middle School Honors from the Association of Wisconsin School Administrators. Criteria for the recognition includes rapid improvement in reading or math scores.

20 Years Ago – 2000

There is a new face at the Cornell Veterinary Clinic, as Todd Berry, recent University of Minnesota Veterinary School graduate, has joined the staff. Berry is originally from New Orleans, La., but grew up in Oxford, Ala.

30 Years Ago – 1990

A celebrity visits Cadott children, in the form of Mc-Gruff (Randy Fahrenkrog), the crime fighting TV personality. McGruff turned 10 years old this year, and each visit he makes to kids, he asks them to help “take a bite out of crime.”

40 Years Ago – 1980

All-Star Wrestling comes to Cornell, with the main event a tag team, consisting of Jesse “The Body” Ventura and Adrian “Golden Boy” Adonis, vs. Mad Dog Vachon and Dino Bravo. Ringside tickets are available for $7 from Bob McCann’s Barber Shop.

50 Years Ago – 1970

An addition to Cadott is beginning to take shape at an access road, located at the junction of State Hwys. 27 and 29. The South Ridge Company plans to ask for an extension to Main Street, to connect with the service road.

60 Years Ago – 1960

Helen Roberts will give free sewing lessons to Cornell women, featuring construction in clothing for beginners, as well as advanced techniques in dress making and tailoring.

100 Years Ago – 1920

Although this has been one of the driest seasons people in this section of the state have ever experienced, Cornell’s new village well pumps have provided an ample supply of water to city residents. Mains are still needed to provide access to the many homes and businesses, but since materials are currently at exorbitant rates, installing the systems has been curtailed for now.
