Cadott splits conference matches, wins at invitational

Cadott’s volleyball program had a full schedule last week, as they traveled to three away matches.

Sept. 22 vs. Regis conference (L 3-1)

The Hornets hit the road, taking on Regis, but the outcome wasn’t what the team hoped for. Cadott lost the first match, 25-16, and the second, 25-17. They rallied to take the third set, 25-19, but Regis clinched the win with a 25-19 victory.

“Regis is a school that knows what winning is like,” said coach James Bremness. “They know how to compete. It’s very hard, if not impossible, to rebound against a team like that if you aren’t 100 percent ready from point one to point end.”

Leading Cadott on assists, was senior Haylee Rowe, with 27, while junior Makenna Barone had 10 kills and sophomore Lauryn Goettl ended with 21 digs.

Sept. 24 vs. Thorp conference (W 3-1)

Cadott then traveled to Thorp, winning the away match 3-1. The Hornets picked up the win in the first set, 25-16, but dropped the second set, 25-21.

“We still kind of fell asleep in set two and came out slow,” said Bremness. “Something we are working on is how to be mentally in it through the entire match.”

Cadott shook off the cobwebs and came out in the final sets, to reel in the win, 25-17 and 25-12.

“[I’m] proud of how the team responded to Tuesday’s loss,” said Bremness. “[They] came out aggressive and ready to earn points, rather then wait for the other team to give them to us.”

Barone gave the team 19 kills and 4 blocks as a force in the middle.

“Hard shots, smart shots, you name it,” said Bremness. “She had one of her best nights in three seasons.”

Rowe again had a good night, with 37 assists.

“Credit really good passing by our serve receivers and setter Haylee Rowe, for making it possible to get the ball to the middles,” said Bremness. “This opened things up nicely for our pin hitters who were then able to put some more heat behind the ball.”

Senior Jada Kowalczyk ended the night with 10 kills and 18 digs, and Goettl had 18 digs and 4 aces.

“The Cloverbelt teams aren’t going to get easier,” said Bremness. “So, it will be more crucial than ever, that we learn how to come out strong and sustain that the entire match, to give us good chances against the rest of the conference.”

Sept. 26 vs. Medford Invitational

There was no rest for the squad, as Cadott headed to Medford, for a triangular against Medford and Ashland. In the opening sets, the Hornets took on Medford, with Cadott coming away with a 3-1 victory.

Cadott took the first set, 25-16, dropped the second 25-15, and finished off their opponents, 25-18 and 25-14, in the third and fourth sets.

It was then up to the Hornets to take on Ashland, with Cadott winning handily in three straight sets, 25-18, 25-8 and 25-12.

Barone ended the day with 21 kills and 4 blocks, and Rowe notched 44 assists and 5 aces. Goettl rounded things out with 36 digs and 11 aces.
