Eugene Carl Larson
Eugene Carl Larson, 88, Holcombe, passed away Friday, Sept. 11, 2020.
Eugene was born June 18, 1932, the son of Ludger and Pearl (Smith) Larson.
He attended the country grade school in the Town of Arthur and Cadott High School.
Eugene attended basic training at Camp Roberts, California, followed by tank school and the National Commander Officer Academy (NCOA) in Fort Hood, Texas. He passed and reached rank of Sergeant First Class. Eugene served his country in the U.S. Army from Jan. 21, 1952, when he was 19 years old, until Jan. 20, 1954.
Following the service, he was united in marriage to Corrine Rouleau in the fall of 1954. Together, they had two children, a daughter and a son.
Years later, he was united with Darlene Hodowanic for 26 years, until his passing.
Eugene owned and operated the Lake Holcombe Sport Shop, and took many of his customers fishing. After selling the shop, he went into logging, until retirement.
He was a long-time member of the American Legion in Cornell. He loved all things outdoors – trapping, hunting and gardening. He also enjoyed watching sporting events, and never missed a Packers or Brewers game.
Eugene welcomed all visitors with a fresh pot of coffee, and an abundance of stories to tell and advice to give.
He is survived by special friend/companion – Darlene, son – Mark (Kelly); daughter – Sandi (Dan); four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three stepchildren – Todd, Jill and Paul; and four stepgrandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister; and two at the funeral home.
Military honors will be conducted by the Cornell American Legion at the funeral home, following the service.

Eugene touched the lives of many and will be greatly missed! He has found peace and is soaring with the angels!
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 26, with Pastor Beverly Thompson officiating, at Borton- Leiser Funeral Home in Cornell.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m., Saturday, at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted by the Cornell American Legion at the funeral home, following the service.
