The U.S. Department of Agriculture has extended the program allowing schools to prepare free breakfast and lunch meals for any child 18 years old and younger through December 31, 2020. Since the School District of Marathon participates in the National School Lunch program, the district is able to offer these meals. Meals will be available for pickup in the morning between 9 a.m. and 10 a.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. Wednesday meals will be included with the Tuesday meal pickup.

If you would like to have meals for your children prepared by the district for pick-up and have not already responded to the survey previously sent out, contact Beth Lane, Marathon Public School food service director, at 715-443-2226 ext. 4188.

Fall clean-up

The Village of Marathon City will hold a fall clean-up on Saturday, Sept. 26, from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at Veteran’s Park, Marathon. Large dumpsters will be placed at the site for the event.

The clean-up event is for Marathon City residents only. Identification will be required.

The clean-up will accept car, truck and tractor tires, washing machines, dryers, stoves, dishwashers, microwaves, furnaces, water heaters, humidifi ers, freezers, refrigerators, window air conditioners and dehumidifiers for a fee.

Electronics, including computers and printers, as well as building materials and yard waste will not be accepted.

Pack 458

Local boys and girls are invited to join Marathon Cubscout Pack 458 Thursday, Sept. 17, 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at Veterans Park, Marathon City. COVID-19 precautions will be in place.

St. Anthony’s

St. Anthony’s Spirituality Center, Marathon, will offer a five-week virtual workshop with Elizabeth Lewis, “Embracing the Now in the Midst of a Pandemic,” Thursdays, 7:15 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. Sept. 17 to Oct. 15.The focus of this hour-long, five week workshop series is to help foster a sense inner security and peace in the midst of the ongoing challenges of living life in a pandemic. The workshop will explore activities that honor grief and loss, identify symptoms of stress depletion, and teach resilience-building strategies and tools that provide a sense of strength for dealing with whatever the future holds.
