Grand opening Sept. 19 for Korean War exhibit
The Highground Veterans Memorial Park invites the public to the grand opening of “We Were There: Korea” on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 12:30 p.m. in The Highground Museum, following the Korean Stone Placement.
The Highground is honored to announce that Medal of Honor recipient Einer Ingman’s family will be attending the grand opening. His family and medal will be escorted into The Highground at 12 p.m.
“We Were There: Korea” is the first exhibit in a four-part series that shares photos, personal notes, stories and more from veterans that “were there.” An incredible 79 veterans and their families submitted items for this exhibit.
Every service member who has been separated from their family and friends and placed in harm’s way on a battlefield also had a life back home. Many civilians may have thought, “I don’t know how they handled it.”
By sharing these moments, The Highground hopes to show viewers how they made it through some of the hardest times of their lives. Sections of the exhibit will also enlighten viewers on the things veterans learned and the unbreakable bonds of brother and sisterhood that were formed.
This is a must-see exhibit for everyone. The history and personal stories featured in this exhibit will offer an unforgettable visit and wonderful learning experience for veterans, families, history buffs and school-age children alike.
The exhibit will be on display until Nov. 29. After this date, “We Were There: Korea” will be available for loan to other venues interested in hosting it.
“We Were There: Korea” is made possible in part by a grant from the Wisconsin Humanities Council and other donors.
The Highground Museum, located at W7031 Ridge Road in Neillsville, is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. All exhibits and activities are accessible and appropriate for all ages.
