10 Years Ago – 2010
Tony and Wendy Espeseth, owners of Fish Window Cleaning in Holcombe, win multiple awards at the franchise’s annual convention. Included in the recognitions, are the Pinnacle Club, Star Performer and Top Producers Overall awards, as well as Franchise of the Year.
20 Years Ago – 2000
Lester Timmerman is honored as the Cadott Lions Club recipient of the Art Bjornstad Award, the last person who will receive the honor. After 22 years, the club decided the award, which was started to recognize individuals for their service to the community, has served its purpose.
30 Years Ago – 1990 Cornell teen James Mohr wins a black Chevrolet that is a replica of one featured in Days of Thunder. During a promotion at Lee Markquart Chevrolet, Mohr was one of 85 people to try his hand, or rather, his key, to see if he was the winner of the $15,000 car.
40 Years Ago – 1980
It may be the longest tug o’ war in history, as rope will pull a truck over the rolling hills of Cadott and the surrounding towns, to raise money for a muscular dystrophy fund. Teams of pullers will alternate pull and ride, with each mile earning pledge money.
50 Years Ago – 1970
It wasn’t easy raising 800 pheasants to release into the wild, but the Lake Holcombe FFA managed it and released the birds, in the hopes natural reproduction will take place to introduce the birds to the area. Members hope hunters will pass the fowl by, so the flock can grow before next year’s crop is raised.
60 Years Ago – 1960
Final work is completed on the dam and pond on the Earl Liddell land just south of Cadott, on State Hwy. 27. The dam was constructed to handle water from severe storms.
100 Years Ago – 1920
This year has been a banner insect year, according to the State Department of Agriculture, including leafhoppers and Hessian flies.
