Two culvert replacements down, with two more to go

Road work continues on State Highway 27, between Cadott and Cornell, with four culverts slated for replacement this summer, into early fall. Replacement began July 6, on Seth Creek, north of 100th Ave., in Cadott, which took several weeks to complete.

“The structures can be constructed in any order, but none will be constructed at the same time,” said Justin Shavlik, project leader with Short Elliott Hendrickson Inc. (SEH). “And this is being done to provide better options for local traffic movement.”

Work then switched to Leman Creek, just south of Cty. Hwy. K in Cornell, which wrapped up after about a month. Once travelers hit the outside city limits of Cornell, it’s smooth sailing, all the way to Cadott.

Shifting north, an unnamed stream about 1/10 of a mile north of Johnson Road in Cornell, will be the focus for the next few weeks. The final phase will see the Clark Creek culvert replaced, which is 1/10 of mile north of Ravenswood Court in Cornell.

“After installing each culvert, the affected roadway will be open to traffic, with a gravel surface,” said Shavlik, who wants to stress to the public to take it slow going over the sites.

A traffic detour runs to State Hwys. 29, 178 and 64, adding a half an hour to the normal travel time. However, locals can utilize portions of adjacent roadways to navigate the construction zones, and all driveways and commercial entrances are open.

The projects should be completed the end of September or the beginning of October.

“Once all four culverts are installed, we’ll come back and finish the paving at each location,” said Shavlik.
