Loyal Legion Auxiliary holds October meeting

The Oct. 8 Loyal Legion Auxiliary meeting opened with a prayer. The secretary’s and treasurer’s reports were read and approved.

A thank you from Patsy Roe for Dan’s service and flag holder was read.

New membership eligibility changes: The Legion Act signed into law on July 30 established two war eras for membership in the American Legion: World War I (April 6, 1917 to Nov. 11, 1918) and World War II (until the end of hostilities as determined by Congress; Dec. 7, 1941 to present). These new membership eligibility dates apply to the Legion Auxiliary, as well. Until updated membership applications are available, new members joining the Auxiliary who do not fall in the war eras may simply write “other conflict or Legion Act.”

At the 2019 national convention, the American Legion approved changes to its by-laws affecting membership. Effective immediately, the Auxiliary membership shall be limited to grandmothers, mothers, sisters, and spouses, including husbands of female veterans who are eligible for membership in the American Legion. If the veteran is living, he/she must be a member of the Legion for family members to qualify for membership in the Auxiliary.

Wisconsin made history at the national convention. Mike Rohan, past National Commander Denise Rohan’s husband, was the first male to join the American Legion Auxiliary.

The next blood drive will be on Nov. 5, from 12:30-5:30 p.m. at the Legion Hall. Ladies signed up to help are Norma W., Dawn J., Alice K. and Phyllis L.

The pancake breakfast sponsored by the Legion Post for Veterans Day will be held on Nov. 10. A bake sale sponsored by the Auxiliary will be held with the breakfast.

The group discussed ideas for spring 2020. Jodi Lindner won the drawing. The meeting closed with a prayer.
