The Highground to be featured on upcoming ‘Discover Wisconsin’ show
Discover Wisconsin, the state’s leading media brand and tourism TV show, will be shining the spotlight on Wisconsin’s Military Tributes in an upcoming episode. The episode will air on Aug. 22 at 10 a.m on Fox Sports Wisconsin. The episode is available now for online streaming at discoverwisconsin.com, Roku, Apple TV, SmartTV, Google Chromecast and Amazon Fire.
“Of all of the episodes of Discover Wisconsin I’ve had the privilege of hosting, none are as reverent as this one,” said Mariah Haberman, host of Discover Wisconsin. “Veteran or not, I feel everyone should take a half-hour of their time to watch ‘Wisconsin’s Military Tributes.’” The episode begins at the Military Veterans Museum in Oshkosh. The museum is home to the largest military vehicle collection in the state, and thanks to many volunteers, almost all the vehicles in the collection are in working condition. The Discover Wisconsin crew also heads to the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Aviation Museum in Oshkosh. Voted one of the best aviation museums in the world by CNN Travel, the museum is a testament to the spirit of aviation. Haberman explores the past, present and future of aviation at EAA’s AirVenture. Considered the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration, EAA’s AirVenture brings veterans, history buffs and aviation enthusiasts together for one incredible week. Haberman interviews one of the original Tuskegee Airmen, Lt. Col. James Harvey III. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American aviators who fought in WWII.
The Discover Wisconsin crew also makes its way to Neillsville to learn about the history and significance of The Highground, a location dedicated to providing healing for veterans, support for families, and honoring veterans. Haberman has the great honor to attend a Stone Placement Memorial, a moment when veterans’ families gather to honor both those who have served, those who have given their lives for their country and those who have supported them along the way.
To end the episode, the Discover Wisconsin crew heads to Camp Douglas to highlight the community’s proud military history. The show features Armed Forces Day, a three-day celebration with great events such as a parade, Bluff Mudder and Color Run, concerts, and much more. A special behind-the-scenes segment of “Wisconsin’s Military Tributes” is featured in episode 11 of Discover Wisconsin’s official podcast, The Cabin.
