Aspirus Volunteers honored by WHA

More than 250 partners and volunteers from medical centers across Wisconsin recently attended the annual Partners of Wisconsin Hospital Association (WHA) state convention in Appleton. This year’s theme was “Volunteers, Our Precious Gems.”

Partners of WHA recognized Aspirus Volunteers with the Wisconsin Award for Volunteer Excellence (WAVE) as well as the Honor Points Award.

Each year volunteer organizations across the state compete for the prestigious WAVE award. This award is given in four categories — Community Service, Fundraising, Hospital In-Service Programs and Community Outreach.

“We were thrilled to receive the news of being selected,” said Mary Jo Henrichs, volunteer president. “After competing against several qualified contenders, it was quite an honor to have our program chosen for the award.”

Aspirus Volunteers-Medford achieved the recognition for working together with another non-profit organization for the ultimate benefit of patients and residents at Aspirus Medford Hospital & Clinics. “By gaining support from Medford VFW Post 5729, our community brat fry fundraiser moved to a highly visible location and experienced an increase in profits,” Henrichs said. “It demonstrated how organizations can truly work together for the greater good of the community.”

The Honor Points Award recognizes volunteer groups that are active on a district and state level, produce a newsletter and coordinate a scholarship program.
