Tricia Zunker to run for Congress in 2020 November general election

On Monday, Wausau School Board president Tricia Zunker confirmed that she will be a candidate for Congress in the 2020 general election.

“Now more than ever, the people of northern Wisconsin need a voice in Congress fighting for them – people like the family farmers and working people I come from,” said Zunker. “While we came up short in the special election under unprecedented circumstances, the situation will be very different in November.”

“Talking with people across our district – initially in-person and then over the phone and internet over these last few weeks – I’ve heard over and over that Washington isn’t getting the job done for families paying too much for health care, farmers who are being squeezed by the ongoing trade war, and seniors who are struggling to cover the rising costs of prescription drugs. On top of all of that, working families will need support as they confront the health and economic fallout from COVID-19. That’s why I’m running.”

Zunker narrowed margins throughout the district during the special election despite a global pandemic, low turnout, and confusion over rules throughout the spring elections. Her election showed that Democrats are gaining momentum throughout the state, and continuing that progress in northern Wisconsin will be essential to flipping the state blue in November.

Zunker again pledged to not take contributions from corporate political action committees in this campaign, so she will be accountable to the people of Wisconsin rather than Washington lobbyists.
