Viola R. E. Clausnitzer
1920-2020
Viola Rosaline Emilie Clausnitzer, 100, a longtime Medford resident, died on Saturday, April 25 at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford, where she had resided for the past nine years. A family graveside committal service will take place on Friday, May 1 at 1 p.m. at Medford Evergreen Cemetery with Rev. James Krueger officiating. A future celebration of life service for the public will take place at Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Medford.
Viola was born on Jan. 13, 1920 in the town of Browning to John and Alma (Schoenfeldt) Frey. She attended Frey Elementary School in the town of Browning and was a graduate of Medford High School. On June 22, 1940 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Whittlesey, she married Robert “Stub” A. Clausnitzer and he preceded her in death on Oct. 25, 2010. After her education, she worked at Bootzin’s Feed Mill in Medford. After their marriage, they owned and operated Clausnitzer Beverage Co. in Medford for over 30 years. Then she cooked at the Northside Tavern in Medford until retirement. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, playing cards, gardening and puzzles. She was a member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church in Medford and its Ladies of Immanuel.
Viola is survived by her children, Bob (Joan) Clausnitzer of Freedom, Ruth (Jim) Gifford of Rapid City, S.D. and Linda (Dave) Heglund of Minneapolis, Minn.; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 20 great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elinora Brandner of Country Gardens, Medford.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; one great-great-grandchild; and brothers, Oscar, Hilbert, John and Ralph Frey.
The family of Viola would like to give special thanks to the nurses and nursing staff at Aspirus Care and Rehab, Medford. They also ask that any memorial contributions be given in Viola’s name to Immanuel Ev. Lutheran Church, Medford.
