Young and old alike can visit with the Easter Bunny at Kathy’s Diner in Cadott, with an egg hunt, prizes and wagon rides for all. The event was co-sponsored by the diner and the Cadott Chamber of Commerce.
20 Years Ago – 2000
Paula Jenneman has worked at the Stacker Cafe since Shar and Al Balsiger opened the former Red’s Garden Cafe. After the couple decided they didn’t want the business any longer, Jenneman decided to give it a whirl and is already revamping the Stacker Cafe menu.
30 Years Ago – 1990
Pat Mrotek is surprised with an appreciation party, from former students, family members and wrestlers, celebrating his induction into the George Martin Wrestling Hall of Fame. Mrotek is the first in the area to receive the accolade.
40 Years Ago – 1980
Replacement of the Cornell Care Center is among proposed healthcare expenditures through the Western Wisconsin Health Systems Agency. The rest home would be changed from a 19-bed facility, to a 50-bed facility, for $1.4 million.
50 Years Ago – 1970
The Cadott community finally has an answer as to the name of a comet seen streaking across the sky of late. The Bennet comet is named after its South American discoverer and proudly showed off a long “tail,” bringing about much stargazing.
60 Years Ago – 1960
Cornell holds Jimmy’s Day, complete with a long John parade through town, in tribute of when senior citizen Jim O’Donnell walked in nothing but his long underwear the 17 miles to Cadott. O’Donnell made the trek in blustery weather in 1955, to raise awareness for giving to the March of Dimes Foundation.
100 Years Ago – 1920
W. C. Strubler, Ellsworth, brings a shipment of draft horses to Cornell for auction. Farmers and haulers around the area agree Strubler has the best horses, and that any teams purchased from him can’t be beat.
