As the outcome of the spring nonpartisan election is still unsettled, others are looking ahead to the partisan elections to be held next fall.

Jaymi S. Kohn is the first candidate to announce for that election. On Friday she formally announced that she will be running for the Taylor County Register of Deeds position currently held by Sara Nuernberger. Kohn will be running on the Republican ticket for the position.

Since January 2013, Kohn has held the position of chief deputy register of deeds. In a release announcing her candidacy, Kohn said working in the Register of Deeds office has been a natural fit for her, with her experience in the title and abstracting industry, and many years of experience in Information Technology, computer programming and database management.

The Register of Deeds office is the local access point for vital records (birth, death, marriage) and is entrusted with the safe-keeping of real estate records such as deeds, mortgages, liens, and releases of liens. A key aspect of this office is providing public access to real estate records, both in person and via the online lands record portal, Landshark. “I truly enjoy interacting with the public and the daily tasks required of this office and look forward to continuing the adherence to excellence that has been set by my predecessors.”

Born and raised in Taylor County, Kohn currently lives in the town of Hammel with her husband of 40 years, David. She has three grown children, all married, and 11 grandchildren that all live in Taylor County, as well as other family. She is a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church in Medford, enjoys spending time with her family, supporting local charity and fundraising events, reading, crossword puzzles, organizing, fishing, target practice and antiquing.

Kohn will begin circulating nomination papers on Wednesday, April 15 to gather the signatures required to have her name appear on the August 11 fall partisan primary ballot for Taylor County Register of Deeds. She said she looks forward to meeting the citizens of Taylor County and would appreciate their support.
