Emergency declared
Village of Marathon City President David Bellanger has declared a state of emergency due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) and closed public access to all village buildings through April 6. The village encourages residents to contact village staff over the telephone or through the mail. Village staff will maintain normal offi ce hours during the state of emergency.
Residents seeking to vote early are asked to contact the village at 715-443-2221 to schedule a time to vote during the early voting period. Voters also may request an absentee ballots from http://myvote. wi.gov. All requests for absentee ballots must be completed by April 2.

Kohl scholarship
The selection committee for the Herb Kohl Educational Foundation has announced Lucas Feck, Marathon High School, has received an Initiative Scholarship.
Initiative Scholarship recipients, chosen by their schools, have demonstrated exceptional initiative in the classroom and have shown strong promise for succeeding in college and beyond, but have not yet received other academic-based scholarships.
The Kohl Foundation Scholarship and Fellowship program was established by Herb Kohl, philanthropist and businessman, in 1990. Currently in its 30th year of recognizing educational excellence, the foundation has awarded $20.9 million to Wisconsin educators, principals, students and schools. “Education is the key to the future of Wisconsin and our nation,” Kohl said. “I am very proud of the accomplishments of these students, teachers, and principals and look forward to the great contributions they will make in the future.”
Award recipients were noti- fied of their awards on Feb. 14. A regional recognition luncheon has been scheduled for Sunday, April 26, at North High School, Eau Claire.
Rib Falls HCE
The Rib Falls HCE met March 11 at the home of Deb Hilmershausen. Dessert and refreshments were served. The songs sung were “Irish Eyes are Smiling” and “My Wild Irish Rose.” The meeting was opened with the Pledge of Allegiance and Creed No. 1. Roll call was taken by asking, “How do you know that it is spring?”
All members were present; there were two guests, Linda Lemmer and Mary Ann Lemmer. The guest speaker was Annette Krautkramer. The club had more Valentine magazine clippings from years ago that were shared. The secretary’s report was given, corrected and approved. The treasurer’s report was read and approved. Carol Uekert read an article of interest to the club. Annette Krautkramer spoke on family and inheritance decisions in a talk entitled, “Who gets Grandma’s Yellow Pie Plate?” The hostess gift went to Terri Steinke. The Birthday Song was sung to Arlyn Heise while she opened her gift from her Secret Pal.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, April 8, at the home of Arlyn Heise. Meeting was adjourned with Creed No. 2. Various St. Patrick’s games were played with all receiving prizes.
Heritage Center
Due to Easter Sunday and Mother’s Day falling on the 2nd Sunday of the months of April and May, the Marathon City Heritage Center will not be open on April 12 (Easter Sunday) and instead will be open on Sunday, April 5, from noon - 2 p.m. The center will not be open on May 10 (Mother’s Day) and instead will be open Sunday, May 3, from noon - 2 p.m.
Spring raffle
The Rib Falls Lions Club will host a spring raffle Sunday, April 19, at Don’s Bar, Rib Falls. Soda, beer and lunch will be provided. The event starts at 1 p.m. A drawing is at 3 p.m.
