Archers take their shots at Augusta

Archery teams from Gilman and Medford got one last competition in Saturday as they traveled to the fifth annual Augusta bullseye and 3-D tournament before their seasons were shut down.

In the bullseye tournament, the Medford Archery Club won the elementary division (grades 4-5) team championship with 2,697 points, which was 37 better than Augusta’s score. The Raiders also took second out of five teams in the middle school division (grades 6-8) with a score of 3,157. Cadott won the division with 3,241 points.

Local individual leaders in the bullseye tournament included Nathaniel White and Bristal Kraemer of Medford, who won the elementary division boys and girls championships. White posted a score of 268 out of a possible 300 to top the field of 37 elementary boys, while teammate Forest Hartl shot a 266 to take second. Both boys are fifth graders. Kraemer, also a fifth grader, did even better, shooting a 272 that was the best score among 38 elementary girls archers.

Gilman’s Hunter Oberle led all local archers with a score of 281. The senior ranked fifth out of 60 high school girls and first out of 11 senior girls. Kaitlyn Webster was ninth among high school girls with her 279.

Kennedy Buske, a fourth grader, earned a score of 251 to place sixth among elementary girls. Tyrel Mravik led Gilman’s middle schoolers, shooting a 271 to rank 14th out of 75 middle school boys. Medford’s Hailey Reilly finished third out of 65 middle school girls with a solid score of 276. She was second out of 22 eighth grade girls.

In the 3-D shoot, Oberle was the high school girls champion with a strong score of 284 that included 20 10-point shots. Teammate Kylee Burton was next with a 282 that included 18 10-point shots and ranked first out of nine junior girls. Reece Weir placed fourth for the Pirates among elementary girls. The fourth grader shot a 226.

White completed a sweep of the elementary boys titles for Medford with his championship score of 256. Kraemer was second among the girls with her 239.

Kyanna Mallien led Medford’s middle schoolers with a 272 that placed second among 34 middle school girls. Jenna Wickersheim was fourth at 267 and Tana Rappe was a point behind in fifth place.

The state tournaments, scheduled for March 27-28 in Wisconsin Dells have been canceled.
