People of all ages can create their own bracelet or necklace and embed it with a secret message using pony beads and the binary alphabet code at the Marathon County Public Library’s Stratford Branch, located at 213201 Scholar St.

This event is free and open to the public with no registration required. For more information, people can call the Stratford library at 715-687-4420.

Sled dog racing

Musher Joseph Carey of rural Stratford took third place in the Adult 8_Dog Speed class at the Kalkaska Winterfest sled race on Feb. 16.

College notes

Andrella Zuelke, the daughter of Tom and Mary Zuelke of Stratford, was awarded to the fall 2019 dean’s list in Swenson College of Science and Engineering on the Unviersity of Minnesota-Duluth campus.

The following three college students from Stratford have been named to the fall 2019 dean’s list at Michigan Technological University in Houghton, Mich.: Sawyer Braun of Keystone National High School, majoring in mechanical engineering; Sierra R. Braun of Keystone National High School, majoring in civil engineering and Davis J. Dietel of Stratford High School, majoring in environmental engineering.

The following three college students from Stratford graduated from UW-Stevens Point at its Dec. 14, 2019, commencement ceremony: Ben Barnett earned an associate of arts and sciences degree, Michelle Berdan a bachelor of science degree in special education and Cailyn Dusky a bachelor of science degree in social work and sociology, Cum Laude.

Michael Schneider and Nicholas Stoflet have been awarded to UW-Platteville’s fall 2019 semester dean’s list. Schneider is majoring in chemistry and forensic investigation and Stofl et is studying electrical engineering.

Stoflet also was on the Chancellor’s list with a 4.0 GPA.

Hannah Skroch of Stratford has been named to the dean’s list for the 2019 fall semester at UW-Milwaukee.

Courtney Krall and Meagahn Telschow both mde the dean’s list for the 2019 fall semester at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa.

VFW blood drives

The following is the 2020 schedule for Stratford Community Blood Drives from 3:30-6:30 p.m. at the VFW Clubhouse: Feb. 25, April 28, June 23, Aug. 25 and Oct. 27.

People are encouraged to walk in the door of the VFW Clubhouse to donate blood, and then they’ll be treated to a light lunch and refreshments.

Contining Education

Stratford Continuing Education is offering a Gentle Yoga class on Wednesdays until May 6 at 6:30-7:30 p.m. in Stratford.

Advance sign up is required. People wanting more information and to sign up for the class can visit www.stratfordclasses. com.

Genealogy training

Adults can work on their family histories and swap genealogy tips with one another during a free monthly event from 1-2 p.m. at the Marathon County Public Library’s Stratford Branch on March 11 and April 8.

Leap for Learning

St. Joseph Catholic School in Stratford is offering Leap for Learning Days, which are half days at school for children who will be in Pre-Kindergarten next school year, to try out the school. Children would need to be four years old by Sept. 1, 2020 to start Pre-Kindergarten for the 2020-21 school year.

The following are upcoming Leap for Learning Days from 8 a.m. until 12:15 p.m.: March 13, St. Patrick’s Day activities and April 8, Donuts with Dad/ Grandpa/Uncle.

Children who attend the Leap for Learning Days should come to school with a coat, snow pants, boots, hat and mittens for playing outside for recess. Children would also need to wear a pair of shoes to wear inside the school when their wet boots are removed.
